On 7 April 1990, a CZ-3 rocket launched from Xichang successfully placed the U.S.-built Asia 1 satellite into orbit. This was China′s first commercial satellite launch.
This satellite was Westar 6 that was brought back from Space by the Shuttle in 1984. It was bought for only $58 million.
